Cardinal Institute for Health Careers’ Medication Aide education Program (MAP) is designed to prepare individuals to provide medication administration in Virginia Assisted Living Facilities (ALF).

Program Description:

Cardinal Institute for Health Careers’ 68-hour Medication Aide Program (MAP) is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing and is designed to prepare individuals to provide medication administration in Virginia Assisted Living Facilities (ALF).

Students will gain basic knowledge in: Legal and Ethical Issues, Preparing for Safe Administration of Medication, Pharmacology Basics, Documentation on Medication Administration Records, Storage and Disposal of Medications, and Insulin Administration

Program Hours

The MAP education program is 40 total clock hours, divided as:

Indirect Hours

  • 40 hours of classroom instruction;

  • 8 hours of classroom module on Diabetes and Insulin Administration

 

Direct Hours

•        20 hours of skilled techniques practice in an Assisted Living Facility
